Hey, it’s been an interesting couple of weeks…a weekend that started well, slumped into depression, picked up on a Monday with some seriously good news, went on into a virology conference Anna-Lise and I organised (huge success, thank you!), through the aftermath of that – and MORE good news. To follow…but involving studying the viromes of southern Indian Ocean food webs, among other locations.
Oh, and then the end of a bubble: being scientifically-minded, here’s the proof.
Pretty much a perfect normal distribution, if smoothed a bit. Peaking at around 400 views a day – enough to attract spam, for the first time! And crazily abusive people [censored], just plain nasty ones [ignored] and the odd supporter. Thank you, odd people: you restored my faith in the human race, and my feeling that I am not an entirely sh1t writer of short fiction.
Pretty bad, possibly, but good enough for Nature…B-)
I also learned a whole new language: terms like “sockpuppet”, “d00dliness”…and that people are willing to chase you to where you work, to further their own grimly PC world views. Fortunately we have sensible folk in the executive at our University, otherwise…what? What could happen to me, for writing a piece of fiction that was not under my institutional affiliation?
Who knows? In any case, there’s far more interesting things to be getting on with. Stay cool, won’t you? And click here for enlightenment.
